This little hole in the wall was such a pleasant surprise! I've walked by so many times over the years, but never actually went in. Well, I brought my mom and sister a few weeks ago, and we LOVED it!
It has a pretty old school atmosphere, but really friendly service, and a huge menu! Obviously pannekoeks are their specialty, and they had a ton of different flavors to choose from. I got the Vegetarian Chili pannekoek, and it was amazing. Usually when I have crepes I choose sweet fillings, but this was so much better. In fact I'm craving it right now. I need to go back here! -

This is a small cafe located on Cambie, not far from the King Edward skytrain station. The interior is cozy and decorated by, well, wooden shoes, as well as pictures of patrons and other odds and ends. Food-wise, they specialize in Pannekoeks, which is a thin, Dutch-style pancake, although they do have a large menu of other breakfast items as well as some lunch fare. I had their Wooden Shoe Pannekoek. It was pretty good and a nice portion. I wasn't really blown by the place, but I think it's worth a visit to try something a little different for breakfast.
The Wooden Shoe Pannekoek ($13.95):
3.5/5
This contained bacon and apples baked in, along with bacon, apples, cheese, and sauerkraut on top. The pancake, while flat, was actually quite soft and tender. It was a bit bland on its own; however, there was a good amount of filling and topping to provide flavour. I particularly enjoyed the bacon, which provided a nice saltiness. While I'm generally not a bit fan of sauerkraut, but here it wasn't too strong and actually blended well with the saltiness.
Summary:
Food: 3.5/5
Price: 4/5
Service: 3/5
Overall: 3.5/5

Greta place been around for a long time, classic cozy down to earth Dutch pannekoek "diner" with broad selection of simple or unique combinations. Great service from busy waitress.

We were looking for a breakfast place on a Sunday morning and there did not really appear to be a place other than chain coffee shops in the area. We took a chance on this pretty non-descript restaurant. Boy were we surprised to find the place was packed (obviously a local favourite). The menu has a lot of selection and it has a small town diner feel. Traditional Dutch foods, friendly wait staff, quick and large portions for a reasonable price. Great breakfast/brunch location, we will likely go back even on our current trip.
